우상화

나는 누군가를 '우상화' 하는 것을 좋아하지 않는다. 

그리고 누군가를 우상화 하는 사람들을 좋아하지 않는다.

그 이유는 그 우상이 흠이 있는 사람들이어서 그런 경우도 있지만

근본적으로 그 대상이 얼마나 훌륭한 사람인가와 상관이 없다. 

누군가를 우상화 하는 사람들은 오히려 자신의 우상을 자신 멋대로 재구성하거나,

아전인수하여 자신과 동일시하거나, 자신의 행동을 정당화하려는 경우가 많다.

육룡이 나르샤 마지막화에 한글창제를 비판하는 사대부들이 비판의 근거로 정도전을 끌어오자

할머니가 된 분이가 정도전은 누구보다 쉬운 글 창제를 좋아했을 것이라고 대꾸한다.

그랬더니 그 사대부들은 감히 사대부들이 얘기하는 데 천한 것이 끼어든다며 역정을 낸다.

훌륭한 사람들을 우상화 할 시간에

자신보다 어렵고 낮은 사람들의 삶을 돌아봐야 한다고 생각한다. 

아이러니하게도 그 '우상들'은 분명 스스로 그러한 사람들이었을테니.

또한 길게 봤을 때 진정 필요한 것도 우상화가 아니라 

옳은 일에 대한 지지와 옳지 않은 일에 대한 비판일테니.

우리 모두가 각자 그렇게 만날 때, 더 나은 사회가 될 수 있다고... 생각한다.

그런 내 생각과 많이 비슷한 가사...가 "Greatest Love of all"에 담겨있다.

이런 생각을 가진 나는 정치에 맞지 않는 것은 아닐까... 고민하는 밤이다.

I believe the children are our future
